Methuen is a small city nestled between the New Hampshire border and the City of Lawrence. The center and eastern portions of the city are heavily developed, and the area known as "The Loop" is home to many retail outlets.  The northern and western sections of town are less developed and have more of a suburban feel to them. The large supply of moderately priced homes has ling attracted first time buyers and buyers with low to moderate incomes to the city.  Another key feature of the town is its close proximity to the many malls and retail shops located just over the border in tax free Salem, New Hampshire.
